Number of Students Homeless in The Youth has become a Major Issue, Learn about the Challenges they are facing

Supreme Philanthropy’s objective is to enhance the quality of life for all individuals, particularly those living in poverty stricken conditions. Last year Supreme Philanthropy held a Thanksgiving dinner & food drive to serve the disadvantaged and homeless families in the Greater Hartford community. Many of the people we help through our community service work are living on a fixed income.

We realize the need for further assistance so they can live a productive and healthy lifestyle, which is every human’s right. In the United States the number of homeless students enrolled in public school systems hit a record high last year, reaching 1.36 million students without a stable and consistent environment which they can call their home! Unfortunately, under the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development guidelines many young people are not technically eligible for assistance or services to help improve their situation.

Current Guidelines in our country state that if students are not living in shelters or sleeping on the streets they don’t qualify. However, many of these students and their families are in predicaments like staying with a friend or relative until they are able to get back on their feet. This also includes majority of the homeless teen youth population sleeping from friend- to- friend’s house throughout the week.

Because of the improper guidelines and systems in place the data fails to paint the entire picture of the issue, and prevents any real solution. Many non-profit organizations who are dedicated to improving current conditions are having a hard time receiving grant money regarding the homeless youth. “These trends are heartbreaking yet entirely predictable, given the Federal governments
chronic absenteeism in community discussions about affordable housing for low-income families.” – Ruth White Executive director of the National Center for housing & Child Welfare
